About Vulnerability to Gender Identity

Gender identity is the idea that ones inner essence is either male or female, both or neither.   This belief relies on stereotypes that are associated with being male or female and how inclined anyone is to fit into them.

Our Duty recognizes the scientific facts that a human only can be male or female (even those born with a medical disability/difference of sexual development), and that no human  can ever change sex.  We believe that every human deserves to live in harmony with the sexed body and that anyone who is distressed about his or her sex category should be assisted to accept physical reality.  Medical interventions can assist a human in presenting an appearance approximating the opposite sex, but they always harm the healthy body and have not been shown to give long-term benefits to more than a tiny few.   They also place unreasonable compliance demands on others.

There are many factors that make a person vulnerable to a belief in the importance of gender identity ideology.   Many persons drawn to it have high internet use, sometimes this developed as part of the COVID lockdown experience.  Many have autistic traits, ADHD, OCD, experiences of trauma, anxiety, depression, feelings of inadequacy, body dysmorphia, disordered eating, self-harm, or other signs of mental distress.  They often are lonely, hate their bodies for a variety of reasons, and feel that they do not fit in well with their peers.  Many have very high intelligence.  Discomfort with their own sexual feelings is common.

In today's culture, anyone who states discomfort with  the sexed body might be encouraged to consider if they are "trans."  Promotion of trans identification is widespread on the internet.  Schools might encourage children to question their sex and then enable a child's social transition without involving parents.  They might also place children or young adults in wrong-sex settings.  Medical professionals often promote the idea of transition, as do social workers, therapists, and foster care and child protection services.
